Definition
of Ecotourism
Ecotourism means traveling to areas in ways that preserve
the environment and the well-being of the local people.
We
are a company that cares about the environment and local
cultures. We promote ecotourism by, for example,
offering bicycle tours, minimizing group size, and patronizing
locally owned establishments. Off-Setting Global Emissions
Despite our intentions, we are aware that a single passenger
on a cross-Atlantic flight to Greece is responsible
for releasing 2-3 tons of global warming carbon dioxide
CO2 into the atmosphere. A CO2
emissions calculator enables
you to calculate your flight travel emissions.
Our EcoExchange Partners
In an effort to off-set our company's and our client's
air travel carbon dioxide emissions, we have devised
the EcoExchange program in cooperation with Elleniki
Etairia
Elleniki Etairia is a local environment and cultural
preservation organization based in Athens. For over two
decades, this not-for-profit group has been a vital advocate
for Greece's ecological and cultural heritage.
Our Clients' Role in EcoExchange
EcoExchange consists of various projects that help sustain
the culture or nature in regions specifically where
CycleGreece has tours. Through our contributions and
those volunteered by our clients, we can ''give back''
to the Greek communities we visit something beneficial
to help off-set our air travel.
Of course EcoExchange does not solve the world's problems.
But every time any one of us on this precious planet
takes an eco-friendly step, we are always headed in the
right direction.
